Africa Hotel

Without a doubt one of the most diverse continents on the planet, Africa is a veritable jewellery box of gems just waiting to be discovered. In fact so diverse is this incredible country, it can be very difficult to know where to start if you’re thinking of a trip there.  From bustling, vibrant, colourful cities like Marrakech in the north of the country to island paradises like Zanzibar to the awe-inspiring beauty of places like The Garden Route in South Africa, a trip to the continent where it all began will stay with your forever. The best thing to do before you plan your holiday is to think carefully about what kind of holiday you want. If you’re looking for adventure and excitement, a self drive safari would suit you down to the ground. On the other hand if you’d prefer to relax and take it easy, then a beach holiday to somewhere like Durban would probably be more up your street. Whatever you do, plan your holiday well and don’t leave anything to chance, particularly if you’re heading out into the wilds. As tempting as it might be to veer off the beaten track, it’s advisable to stick to a reasonably well weathered path!

Naturally enough, Africa hotels are as diverse as the country itself. You’ll find everything from five star luxury in the cities and on some of the bigger game reserves, to more basic accommodation catering for the backpacker, year-out community.

It’s almost impossible to say what the best hotel in the whole continent is, but one that would certainly put up a good fight for the top spot is the Amanjena in Marrakech. This stunning five star hotel is made up of 32 beautifully appointed pavilions and is set within an oasis of lush palm and olive trees. The design reflects the city’s Moorish heritage and the hotel successfully marries echoes of the ancient world with modern luxury.  Each pavilion has a large bedroom/living area and exquisite bathroom along with a private courtyard and mod cons including CD player, TV and DVD player, and of course a fully stocked mini bar. The hotel is located just on the edge of Marrakech and makes the perfect base for exploring this exciting, bustling city.

At the other end of the country is another hotel that has earned its place on the’ Africa’s finest’ list – the Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa in Cape Town. One of the key selling points of this hotel is the absolutely stunning views of both the Atlantic rollers that crash in onto the beach and Table Top Mountain that looms majestically in the background. The hotel has won a number of awards for service and with good reason – the welcome is warm and great attention is paid to every last detail. All the rooms are either mountain or sea facing and the hotel is divided into four wings linked by walkways. The decor of the hotel is refined and elegant and the overall atmosphere is wonderfully relaxing. Just a ten minute drive from the heart of Cape Town, the Twelve Apostles makes an excellent base whether you’re travelling to the city for business or pleasure.

If you’re planning a trip to the truly spectacular Victoria Falls area of Zimbabwe, then The Victoria Falls Hotel will not disappoint. It’s a member of the exclusive Leading Hotels of the World group and combines old world charm with contemporary luxury. The hotel is situated just a ten minute walk from the Falls (which can both be seen and heard in the background) and is hugely popular with both locals and international visitors. It’s a large hotel with 168 rooms in total and is renowned for its world class service and fine dining. The perfect spot if you want to escape reality for a few days and enjoy exploring this incredible part of Africa.
